What is a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a treatment option for women who have large or uneven labia, which can cause discomfort when wearing specific types of clothing, exercising, or being intimate. More importantly, women with large or uneven labia may experience general feelings of self-consciousness about their bodies. If you are considering a labiaplasty in Long Island, we want you to know we understand how these issues can affect your life. Precision Medical Arts are here to help you achieve your desired look and aesthetic goals.

What is the procedure for labiaplasty?

The labiaplasty procedure involves the reduction and/or reshaping of the labia minora. Typical reasons for choosing the procedure include discomfort and self-consciousness due to enlarged labia, which can often occur after delivering a baby. This procedure can also be combined with a clitoral hood reduction which can potentially change the look and feel of the clitoris in the upper part of the vagina.

What types of labiaplasty procedures are there?

The two methods used for labiaplasties are the wedge and edge techniques.

With the edge method, the doctor will make an incision that removes the outer edge of the inner labia, making it level or shorter than the outer labia. With this method, there is more potential for scarring.

The wedge technique involves removing a V-shaped “wedge” from both sides of the labia and stitching the edges together. This technique leaves less scar tissue overall.

What are the benefits of labiaplasty surgery?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the labia minora, the fleshy inner lips of the vagina. The surgery is usually done for cosmetic reasons, to alleviate discomfort caused by large or uneven labia, or to improve sexual satisfaction.

Labiaplasty is often performed for women who feel self-conscious about the appearance of their genitalia.

  • It can also be performed to reduce discomfort or pain during activities such as cycling or running
  • Enhances the overall appearance of the vagina
  • Helps to boost confidence in intimate situations and in general
  • It can help to reduce discomfort due to large labia
  • It can help to reduce friction and chafing due to large or irregular labia
  • Helps to reduce feelings of embarrassment during intimate situations

Am I the Ideal Candidate For Labiaplasty?

The best candidates for the surgery are in good health and have realistic expectations. Women who have experienced changes to their vaginal area after giving birth, or those with large and/or irregular labia majora, minora, or both are typically good candidates for vaginal rejuvenation.

The Recovery Experience

Labiaplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning the patient does not need to stay overnight in the hospital. The surgery usually takes less than two hours, and recovery times vary depending on the individual. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within a few days, but it is important to avoid strenuous activity and sexual intercourse for at least four weeks to allow the incisions to heal properly. The majority of patients report satisfaction with the results of their surgery, and there are generally few complications associated with the procedure.
