Reduce fine lines and restore your youthful glow

Those seeking to reduce fine lines, creases, and wrinkles of the face and neck may benefit from BOTOX or Dysport, two injectable treatments that can reduce early signs of facial aging and restore smooth, youthful skin. Although BOTOX and Dysport are safe for most adult patients, they are not the best choice for everyone.

The plastic surgeons at Precision Medical Arts understand how these treatments will affect your unique features and can help you determine if BOTOX, Dysport, or another option is right for you based on your individual aesthetic concerns and cosmetic goals.

Which conditions can facial injectables treat?

BOTOX and Dysport work in similar ways. Both injectables use an active ingredient, botulinum toxin A, to temporarily relax the muscles beneath the skin. This smooths the skin, making fine lines and wrinkles less visible.

BOTOX or Dysport may be used to refine the appearance of common facial conditions that occur with age, including:

  • Wrinkles and lines on the sides of the eyes, also known as “crow’s feet”
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines, the “frown lines” that form between the eyebrows
  • Vertical wrinkles around the lips, or “lip lines”
  • Lines and creases at the corners of the mouth

How do facial injectables work?

BOTOX and Dysport are produced by different manufacturers, but each utilizes a serum derived from botulinum toxin A. Throughout our lives, we use our facial muscles when we laugh, frown, squint, or cry. These actions create what are known as dynamic wrinkles. Over time, these lines and wrinkles become etched into the skin, no longer disappearing when we stop smiling or frowning. BOTOX or Dysport is delivered to the affected site through a tiny needle and works by prohibiting the muscle contractions that cause these wrinkles.

Choosing the right injectable

Although BOTOX and Dysport are similar, there are some key differences. Dysport employs a lesser degree of the botulinum toxin protein per dose, which clinical tests indicate allows for faster onset of results. Dysport also affects a broader range, making it beneficial when treating a larger area, such as the forehead and brows, as it requires fewer injections. BOTOX is well suited for more defined areas, such as around the eyes and mouth. BOTOX and Dysport should not be confused with dermal fillers like Restylane, which use a form of hyaluronic acid to smooth away wrinkles and rejuvenate skin smoothness.

Keeping you comfortable

The procedure used to administer BOTOX or Dysport only takes about 15 minutes and can even be done during your lunch break. It requires no recovery time. The effects of both BOTOX and Dysport may last for months, although follow-up treatments will be necessary to maintain the results. Your plastic surgeon will help you determine whether BOTOX or Dysport is best suited to your unique concerns.

When will I see my results?

The effects of Dysport tend to be noticeable within a few days following your treatment, while BOTOX may take a week for the full results to become evident. The visible results of both BOTOX and Dysport last for an average of four to six months, depending on a number of individual factors. As their effects fade, muscle contraction will reoccur. Occasional repeat treatments are necessary to retain results.
